Why the iPad should be focus for ecommerce retailers

Research suggests channel is fastest growing

Furniture retailers looking to capitalise on the growth of mcommerce, shopping via mobile devices, should focus on optimising their websites for the iPad.

This is chief among the findings of research by Adyen, the Dutch payment processor, which has analysed the past eight months of transactions it has processed.

It says the iPad is among the fastest growing devices in terms of purchase volume, but also that shoppers spend on average 20 per cent more when using the iPad.

3.6 per cent of payments processed are done so using an iPad, which compares with 3 per cent using an iPhone and 1.5 per cent on mobile devices running the Android operating system.

The growth in iPad use means the device is now twice as popular as it was eight months ago as a means of completing online purchases. Late last year, fewer than 4 per cent of mobile transactions were completed with an iPad, but this figure had snowballed to 8.4 per cent by June of this year.
