The Furniture department of AIS has an exciting opportunity for a Partnership Trading Manager, responsible for ensuring quality and safety compliance and customer relations.

Using a framework of trading agreements, legal obligations, best practice guidelines and service level agreements, this role will identify ways to improve quality and service helping both members and suppliers achieve a profitable and efficient working relationship.

This role would suit a self-motivated and organised individual with experience of the Furniture sector and a background in retail legislation. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service and building positive working relationships, with a focus on quality and safety compliance.

Reporting in to the Director of Furniture Designate and working closely with the Selectors, the Partnership Trading Manager will oversee and review supplier service level agreements and monitor member satisfaction. In order to successfully build relationships with suppliers and members exceptional communication and presentation skills are needed as is an ability to problem solve, produce accurate work and quickly gain credibility.

Due to the nature of the role the ideal candidate will have previous furniture experience from either a retail or manufacturing background.

Key aspects of the role will be to:

  • Ensure that all prospective suppliers are fully briefed and understand and agree to conform to Partnership Trading guidelines before joining.

  • Ensure that new members joining AIS are fully aware of Partnership Trading guide lines and are provided with the necessary documentation.

  • Continually promote the merits of Partnership Trading to both the members and preferred suppliers. This includes visiting member stores to promote and detail the benefits of Partnership Trading and gain feedback on supplier performance.

  • Collect complaints statistics from members who are using computerised complaints systems in order to prepare a supplier performance league for circulation to the membership on an annual basis.

  • Keep updated on pricing legislation and British Standards guidelines and developments, and support and advise members as and when required.

  • Ensure that the Partnership Trading Manual and supporting information are kept up to date and are readily available to both members and suppliers.

  • Manage the development and promotion of TradeIslands supplier database to the membership.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience of quality and safety compliance, ideally within the Furniture sector from either a retail or manufacturing background.

  • The ability to build strong working relationships with a background in customer service.

  • Understanding of retail legislation and previous experience working with organisations such as Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS)/Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) / Office of Fair Trading (OFT) / Trading Standards.

  • An experienced line manager, able to motivate and support team members.

  • A confident and articulate communicator (both in writing and verbally).

  • Experienced in delivering presentations would be advantageous.

  • Be familiar with flammability laws and compliance testing.

  • Good working knowledge of IT based packages (including Excel to intermediate level or above). Experience of retail IT systems and system implementation would be desirable but not essential.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative and prioritise to meet deadlines.

  • Process driven with excellent organisational skills.

  • Skilled in problem solving with a solution driven approach.

  • Must possess a positive ‘can do’ attitude with a calm and focused manner especially busy periods.

  • Flexible with a willingness to take on extra responsibility and grow the role.

  • Membership with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) would be advantageous as there may be a requirement to support with aspects of import and trading in the future.
