Flooring chain Carpetright is to roll out an interest free credit offer across its store portfolio following a successful trial.

The decision follows a 12 week test at Carpetright stores in Scotland, with the market leader saying its introduction galvanised both sales and margins.

It says it will roll out IFC across its UK store base from Boxing Day, adding that it will be supported by its well established price promise to match competitor deals on the same product, together with regular promotions and offers.

Some of those offers helped boost sales in the first half of its financial year, with Carpetright saying interim sales were up 2.6 per cent to £227.9m, including a 5 per cent total increase in the UK and a 6.5 per cent rise in like-for-like sales.

Carpetright opened nine stores and closed 17 to end the period (25th October) with 463 UK stores. Half year underlying profits were up 123 per cent to £6.7m, the retailer said.
