Venture capital company O2 Capital Partners has agreed to acquire Dutch carpet manufacturer Edel International from its founding family.

The deal — which also includes Edel’s Elland, Yorkshire based Edel Telenzo Carpets subsidiary — brings an end to more than 100 years of De Lange family ownership for the company, which is headquartered in the city of Genemuiden.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed, though the takeover “ensures a capital injection for Edel for which plans for the future can be realised,” it said in a statement.

It added that the takeover had no negative consequences for employment and encompasses all business units of Edel International, trading under the Edel Group and Edel Telenzo brands.

Edel International md Robbert Wapstra said: “The current shareholders see a bright future with O2 Capital Partners. To be able to grow — to realise our ambitions — this step was desired and as a company we are therefore very content with the acquisition.

“We will profit from their expertise and extensive network and are looking forward to a positive future, for our personnel, customers, suppliers and other partners.”

Its British subsidiary hasn’t publicly disclosed sales since 2011, but has historically registered annual turnover of around £6m–£9m.
