Department store mutual John Lewis is planning to open a full-line store in Cheltenham, plugging a geographical gap that stretches from Bristol to Solihull.

The retailer—which has just opened in Birmingham and is preparing to open stores at Basingstoke, Leeds and Chelmsford over the next year—hopes to launch the two-floor shop in 2017.

John Lewis’ already announced Oxford store will also open that year, and will—along with Bristol and Swindon—become the closest shop to Cheltenham when it opens.

The new Cheltenham store will sell John Lewis’ full line of merchandise, and will span an area of around 115,000sqft. It is part of a £30m development of the site occupied by Cheltenham’s Beechwood Shopping Centre.
