Demand for Belgian and Dutch made carpets slackened in the summer as total textile flooring imports fell 1.8 per cent to £60.2m in August.

HM Revenue & Customs data put Dutch carpet imports down 9.1 per cent to £15m, with Belgian imports falling by 2.4 per cent to £20.4m year-on-year.

Textile flooring imports from China were also down—by 9.6 per cent to £4.7m—though goods bought in from India climbed nearly a quarter to £5.2m.
