Demand for decorative papers from cabinet furniture firms helped gloss over weak sales of floorcoverings at industrial giant Egger in the six months to end October.

Half year sales rose 2.3 per cent to €1.16bn, with EBITDA rising 8.5 per cent to €172.6m, the privately owned Austrian firm said.

Egger’s decorative products division enjoyed 3.7 per cent revenue growth while its retail products business — which sells floorcoverings — was down 7.9 per cent.

It added that it had invested €113m across its 17 factories during the half, including money spent on a new high bay warehouse at its St. Johann HQ and modernising its UK facility at Hexham.
