Scotland based fitted furniture vertical DM Design Bedrooms posted stronger profits as its shift towards direct sales continued to pay off.

The manufacturer and retailer—which sells north and south of the border from three showrooms and through in-the-home design visits—grew profits almost four-fold to £447,435 in 2014–15.

Profits would have been even higher but for it paying out the second tranche of a £90,000 fine issued in 2013 by the Information Commissioners Office in relation to marketing calls.

Revenue in the year to end January 2015 was down 7.8 per cent to £9.7m, largely as a result of its earlier decision to downsize its physical showroom network. The company has showrooms at Cumbernauld, where it has its factory HQ, Aberdeen and Kirkcaldy.

It was strongly cash generative in the latest period, bringing in a net £587,734 cash from operations, which it used to pay down debt and move to a net funds position of £2,403 (2014: net debt of £77,908). Shareholder funds were unchanged at £1.3m.
