Multi-brand kitchen manufacturing group Omega posted strong profits in the year to end December as group sales climbed 5.6 per cent to £39.9m.

The group, which operates from 315,000sqft premises at Thorne, Doncaster, sells kitchens under a variety of brands including Chippendale, English Rose, Sheraton and Mackintosh.

Underlying operating profit rose 7 per cent to £6.9m while pre-tax profits profits were even higher, reaching £8.2m (2013: £5.1m).

That was because it sold property, plant and equipment for more than £16m, releasing a £2.4m gain to its profit and loss account. Together with net cash generated from operations of £6.9m, it used the funds to repay nearly £21m in borrowings. Year end cash and equivalents totalled £4.6m (2013: £4.7m).

The balance sheet value of the Yorkshire business rose by more than £6m to £18.1m.
