Furniture sales grew 7.6 per cent at department store mutual John Lewis last week driven by orders taken from its online channel.

The retailer said furniture category sales were up 24.7 per cent online as ecommerce delivered across all components of its Home offer. It didn’t provide a stores figure.

Beds and Bedroom, Living, Dining and Upholstery all achieved double-digit percentage increases as customers begin to prepare for winter comfort, according to David Barford, director of selling, London and South.

Total sales in the seven days to 24th October were up 2.1 per cent to £85.3m, with online contributing 9.2 per cent growth.

Its Home directorate was up 5 per cent overall, slightly below Fashion, which grew 5.9 per cent. Electricals and Home Technology department sales were down 4.3 per cent. Only eight of John Lewis’ 42 stores open more than a year made gains on the previous year.
