Belgian and Dutch carpet imports fell sharply in September though there was a rise in the amount of accent flooring brought in from far-off markets.

Belgian shipments declined 13.3 per cent to £24.2m at the end of the third quarter; with goods arriving from the Netherlands dropping even steeper, by 14.7 per cent to £16.8m.

Far East imports climbed, with Chinese carpet imports up 15 per cent to £3.9m and shipments from India—predominantly rugs—up 6 per cent to £5.3m.

The HM Revenue & Customs data put total carpet and textile floorcoverings arrivals into Britain at £69.9m, down 2.4 per cent on September 2014.
