A key cog in the UK bed manufacturing supply chain enjoyed strong sales growth in the year to end January.

Privately owned Service Timber—based at Selby in Yorkshire—grew sales by 16.8 per cent, or nearly £2.3m, to £16m in 2014–15.

The firm is an important supplier to the beds industry, supplying up to 20,000 divan bases per week. It also supplies timber for other applications, including the production of pine and garden furniture.

Pre-tax profits for the company rose by 30 per cent to £226,012, though it banked less cash from operations than the previous year, at £215,749 (2014: £532,528), and net debt increased to £2.8m (2014: £2.6m).
