Two of Britain’s largest privately owned carpet suppliers are the biggest industry creditors of Bob Hughes Carpets, a Dorset retailer which liquidated late last month.

Bury manufacturer Cormar Carpets was owed just under £34k by the south coast firm, while South East distributor Valley Wholesale is listed as being owed nearly £45k, according to statutory documents.

Julie Palmer and Simon Campbell of Begbies Traynor were installed joint liquidators of Bob Hughes Cash and Carry Carpets Ltd on 30th January.

The company operated from large warehouse style premises on Ringwood Road in Poole and — despite seeing sales decline from just under £1m in 2008–09 to £752k in 2012–13 — had remained profitable each year apart from 2011.

Newco Hampshire Carpets was incorporated mid-January, and shares directors in common with the liquidated business.
