Case goods manufacturer Hereford Furniture’s Staniers Way headquarters is to close and be turned into an upmarket car showroom.

The furniture supplier — the subject of a New Troubleshooter television documentary last year which hoped to inject new life into the business — will see its circa 90,000sqft site off Roman Road shut down later this summer.

A local Land Rover dealership has successfully applied for planning permission including change of use, and expects to open next year after completing building work.

It hopes the car showroom and workshop will double employment to 50 from the current 25 employed across the furniture factory.

The owner of the site is Roman Property Ltd, which shares directors and owners in common with Hereford Furniture.  Documents filed on behalf of the new occupier date back to the autumn of last year, suggesting the decision was some time in the planning.
