Darren Shapland — who led flooring chain Carpetright for a brief spell two years ago — is returning to the industry as chairman at Topps Tiles.

He replaces longtime chairman Michael Jack who is retiring on 18th March after 16 years on the Topps Tiles board and the last three and half at the head of the table.

Darren Shapland was finance director at Carpetright for three years and later rejoined the chain as CEO in 2012, though he left after just 18 months in the post.

He has since taken on chairmanships at Poundland and Maplin Electronics.

Topps Tiles CEO Matthew Williams said: “Darren’s many years of experience with some of the leading retailers in the UK, including a number within the home improvement market, will be of great benefit to Topps as we home in on our target of one third of the market and consider our future strategic direction."
