franksFlooringStore25-store flooring and beds chain Franks posted record sales and maintained its near double-digit pre-tax margin as it traded strongly in 2013–14.

The company behind the North East based business — J Maguire Holdings — posted turnover up 6.3 per cent to £24.3m in the year to end July.

Privately owned J Maguire Holdings’ subsidiary Createcity runs a number of Franks the Flooring Store shops, as well as supplying goods to other businesses including franchisees operating under the same fascia.

Among these are Cotterhill — run by another family member — which made £978k before tax as sales grew 3 per cent to £8.4m in the year to end March 2014.

Network sales across the Franks operation are estimated to have risen from the circa £35m achieved the year before. J Maguire Holdings grew pre-tax profits by 10 per cent to £2.2m.

Its accounts — signed off in September but only just filed at Companies House — show the balance sheet value of the company climbed to £4.9m (2013: £3.4m) while net debt totalled £1.7m (2013: net funds of £106k), which was chiefly the result of it agreeing a new bank loan.
