A second showroom will open this summer with more planned over the next two years
The md of Arlo & Jacob says the London based sofa brand is in "full expansion mode" with plans to open showrooms nationwide over the next two years.

In a telephone interview, Nick Wasey told The Furnishing Report the company, whose products are manufactured in a co-owned JDP Furniture group factory, would open its second showroom later this summer.

Arlo & Jacob has taken the former Multiyork showroom on Whiteladies Road in Bristol, with the 4,500sqft. space augmenting its launch showroom — a slightly smaller unit at 4,000sqft. — in Fulham.

"We are only in our third full year of trading. The first year was very much a startup phase, starting with a sheet of paper and an idea.

"The second year was about consolidation, getting it all up and running, making some mistakes and learning from them, while now we are in full expansion mode. Our plan is carefully thought out and we are executing well."

He said Arlo & Jacob would invest £5 million over the next two years, spit across showroom investment and new technology.

Its showroom plans include "half a dozen" new sites, said Mr Wasey, with the retailer having also recently hired former Gautier UK md Harvey Roberts as commercial director.

"We are looking nationwide across the UK and we have a couple of locations already in play. But we are not rushing into anything — we do read the papers!"

The showrooms will be similarly sized to both its London and Bristol stores.

Mr Wasey added that while its Fulham showroom had created a halo effect in terms of sales, it was "heartening" that the business already generates sales around the country.

"We like the fact we are vertically integrated. We are making the furniture ourselves and making it in the UK which very much gives us some distinct advantages. That will continue."
