Sales of home-related merchandise fell for a third straight week at John Lewis but the chain saw bumper demand for fashion lines.


While home was off 0.4 percent in the seven days to June 16, total sales across the business increased 5.7 percent to £82.6 million.


That was largely thanks to a 10.9 percent uplift in apparel and footwear sales, with electricals and home technology also rising, by 6.2 percent.


Big-ticket lines failed to glean a mention in its commentary of weekly gainers, with the home category performance instead boosted by sales of Father's Day gifts, outdoor living and cook and dine products.
