Direct-to-consumer mattress brand Simba Sleep has appointed Allan Leighton, former CEO at Asda, as its new chairman, replacing Tom Teichman.

Mr Leighton, who is the incumbent chairman at the Co-Op, has also invested £1 million in the company, it announced in a press release.

Tom Teichman will "continue his focus on investing in early-stage companies," Simba, which claims to have shifted 200,000 mattresses since its 2016 launch, added.

CEO Steve Reid described Mr Leighton's appointment as "a significant coup," describing him as "a world class retail veteran."
