Love Sofas is trading via the LoveSofas.co.uk and has exited its Huddersfield showroom
Yorkshire upholstery retailer Love Sofas has restructured the business in order to exit a large retail property and warehouse. It says customers are unaffected.
The Huddersfield company was placed into liquidation through Philmore & Co, with the LoveSofas.co.uk website taken on by a company called Internet Retail, which was set up last year.
Director Richard O'Connor told The Furnishing Report the transaction was "mainly to get out of a large showroom lease and a warehouse," a reference to its property on Trinity Street.
Liquidator Philmore & Co has since disclaimed the company's interest in the building, with the circa 8,000sqft retail showroom now being advertised for let to others.
Besides taking on the ecommerce website, Internet Retail has "looked after all customers on outstanding orders and warranty issues," Mr O'Connor added.
Statutory filings indicate that the biggest trade creditors are companies in Poland and China.
Mr O'Connor added that the creditor's figure — which tops £1 million in all including sums owed to directors and the state — "was inflated as landlords put rents in to the end of lease but at the time all rents were paid up to date."
