Upholstery chain CSL is to rebrand as Sofaworks with the store fascia currently being changed across the circa £90m retailer's store portfolio.

The change follows a switchover of the company's trading arm (CS Lounge Suites Ltd) to Sofaworks Ltd, a longstanding dormant company that had been part of the group since 1996.

The business has also made a number of board appointments, including former Kuoni Travel head of IT services Jason Glover as Chief Information Officer and ex-Lloyds Pharmacy retail operations head Kevin Snowball as Retail Operations Director.

Simon Farnsworth has also joined the board from clothing manufacturer Albion. It is understood he is heading up the finance function and is believed to be the same Mr Farnsworth who was formerly CEO at flooring chain Floors-2-Go.

A website holding page for Sofaworks has been live for several days while the retailer this morning (10th Dec) also tested its new website (www.sofaworks.co.uk) live before reverting back to the holding page.

A spokesman for the Warrington headquartered group — which grew sales by 40 per cent to £89.3m last year — confirmed that signs across the retailer's store estate nationwide were currently in the process of being changed to the Sofaworks name.

The retailer's lawyers registered the Sofaworks name and logo as a trademark with the UK authorities more than two months ago, and an announcement confirming the rebrand is expected shortly.

Managing director Jason Tyldesley was unavailable when the Furnishing Report called and emailed over the past few days.
