Management have completed a buyout at Cheadle soft furnishings supplier Character World in a deal backed by North West private equity firm Palatine.

The deal is worth £36m and marks an exit for investment firm RJD Partners, who backed an original MBO from brothers Mark and Danny Schweiger back in 2008. The Schweigers remain in charge following the latest deal.

Character World supplies licensed soft furnishings products — chiefly bedding and window dressings — such as bedspreads adorned with images of children's TV characters or film stars, selling its products into mainstream national retailers spanning grocers to department store groups.

The deal includes a £16m investment from Manchester based Palatine as well as debt facilities north of £20m from RBS, with Character World looking to build on expected 2014 revenues of £32m.
