Targeting retailers including Marks & Spencer and Morrisons has paid instant dividends for a furniture distributor in Yorkshire.

Elland based Andy Thornton said launching its products into the retail sector — with M&S, Morrisons and Hugo Boss name-checked in just filed accounts — was proving effective.

The company is best known for supplying the hospitality sector.

Revenue jumped by 26 per cent to £11m in the year to end July while pre-tax profit climbed 78 per cent to £562k. It added that its order book carried forward at the year end was £2.6m, up slightly on the prior year.

Andy Thornton’s product range takes in over 4,000 skus across furniture, lighting and outdoor merchandise, while it also supplies salvaged architectural antiques and decorative accessories to the hospitality market.

The company generated over £1m net cash from operations and £620k cash overall as it cut year-end net to just £173k (2013: £709k).
