Year-on-year mattress imports were positive again in June, suggesting the fall in May — a first in nearly two years — was nothing more than a blip.
Foam and sprung mattresses shipped and trucked to Britain totalled £9.6 million by value in the final month of the first half of 2018, an 8.7 percent rise on June 2017.
The data, from HMRC figures compiled by The Furnishing Report, means half-year mattress imports have gained 16 percent compared with the first six months of 2017.
Full year imports now seem certain to break what was already a record 2017, when the total passed £100 million for the first time in history.
June's total was boosted by large double-digit percentage leaps in the value of goods arriving from Denmark and China, offsetting declines from Poland — the biggest non-UK source of mattresses sold in Britain — and Ireland.
