Upmarket retail chain Sofas & Stuff — the brainchild of Sofa Workshop founder Andrew Cussins — is on the march with new smart showrooms opening across Britain.

The latest was slated to open this past weekend (22nd Nov) in Manchester, bringing total showroom numbers to 12 with another scheduled for early 2015.

Its Manchester store differs from most of the others in the Sofas & Stuff stable, in that it is located in the city centre, a short walk from Deansgate and Salford Central train station near to the city’s Spinningfields area.

Sofas & Stuff headquarters and original barn showroom are located at a converted dairy at Fittleworth in West Sussex, with other barn showrooms dotted around the UK in counties such as Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Kent and Berkshire.

It also has a space in Red Brick Mill in Yorkshire — one of two in the county — while its northernmost showroom is a barn-like airy store near Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

In London, its Parsons Green showroom has been joined by another at Battersea, the first to house what Sofas & Stuff calls its Can’t Wait collection of sofas and chairs, available on a seven-day quick-ship lead time.

A third London showroom — to the east at Haggerston — is also scheduled to open next year, in February.

Sofas & Stuff was created by part-owner Andrew Cussins, who founded — and later helped rescue — the Sofa Workshop chain which is now owned by DFS. Edward Whitley — whose background is in finance — is the other shareholder.

Corporate identities have been created for each of the brand’s showrooms, with Sofas & Stuff thought to be owning half of each individual company and the remainder in the hands of the respective store manager/partner.

Companies House documents filed in the past month suggest the business has also recently secured new finance through banking giant Barclays.
