Filled bedding company Trendsetter Home Furnishings posted record sales in the year to end January as it returned strongly to growth.

The privately owned Manchester company — which operates the Fine Bedding Company brand — put more than £7m on its top line in 2014–15 to register highest-ever sales of £22.5m.

Its near 50 per cent top line growth reversed a 6 per cent dip the prior year, and was put down to its “relentless focus on nurturing existing business and raising the bar on product quality and innovation.”

Trendsetter profits were up 160 per cent to £1.4m, its best result since 2005 (£2m).

The company — which can trace its roots back 100 years — sells duvets, pillows and mattress toppers, and this month celebrates the 15th anniversary of it establishing its Baltic Fibres Oü manufacturing facility in Estonia.

Trendsetter says the plant has become a state-of-the-art hub  delivering groundbreaking new trademarked innovations, such as its Smartfil range of fibres that include SmartfilAir for duvets and SmartfilClusters for pillows.

Its ProCool intelligent cooling fibres have been introduced by Trendsetter this year, and feature in its Cool Touch pillow, sold through The Fine Bedding Company brand, which uses thermodynamics to absorb excess heat into a ‘core’ to be released again once body temperature is at an optimum level.

Managing director Claire Watkins said: “With continued investment the factory has evolved and helped us achieve our vision as leaders in innovation. We now employ more than 110 people, many from the local area, and produce around 30,000 quilts, 52,000 pillows and 1000 mattress enhancers a week.”
